Makeup Shaming Rant!

Hey everyone,

You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been absent since the beginning of December. The reason – there isn’t really one. I didn’t feel like blogging and I had a lot going on at work so I thought what’s the point in forcing it.

Anyway on to today’s topic ‘makeup shaming’ as I’ve called it. I hate to jump straight into a rant at the beginning of the year but to be honest this really has been grinding my gears for quite a while now.

‘Makeup shaming’ as I call it is the act of criticising and attacking others for the amount of makeup they wear; however much or little.

Let’s get one thing straight here. I do not tolerate bullying, name calling or small minded attitudes. On my blog or in my life. Calling someone a bad example, a whore, a slut, ugly or whatever else your nasty little mind can conjure up because you are of the opinion that they wear too much makeup is just plain ridiculous. I’m sorry if I’m wrong but as far as I am aware there is no rule book or list of commandments that predetermines what is and isn’t acceptable when it comes to your beauty regime. If you feel beautiful and if you’re happy then it’s nobody else’s goddamn business.

The only limitation here is yourself. You only feel beautiful when you’re comfortable in your look and the only rules that determine what your look is are the ones you set. You can wear nothing or everything and don’t ever let anyone tell you different.

Makeup is whatever it means to you, and to me it’s an art form. To me it’s a way to enjoy and express myself. I’ve never been bothered what people thought about my makeup, in fact just the opposite. The more people criticise me the more it encourages me to keep doing me.

Here is just one example. I went to my local pub on New Year’s Eve and I was completely digging my style. I wore a black cami, oversized faux fur coat, ripped jeans, dramatic eyeshadow and bold black lipstick. I felt fierce as hell, and I took a tonne of selfies to prove it. This older gentlemen clearly misjudged the situation, and me, so he approached me and cracked the joke “you do know Halloween has already been love?” His mistake. I turned, smiled and said “I don’t expect someone of your age to know much about fashion LOVE.”

Black Lipstick

Yeah it was harsh, I’m sure he thought he was making a harmless joke. But guess what fucker, wind your neck in and think before you speak. NEVER make comments or rude remarks on someone’s appearance just because it’s not your cup of tea. And this goes the other way too, NEVER EVER let anyone put you down when you’re feeling your look. Fashion is so subjective and if they really want to try and criticise you they’re probably just a miserable prick anyway.

Announcement – My YouTube Channel

Drum roll please…

The day is here people! I finally managed to get my first video up on YouTube. After 2 attempts at uploading and much frustration it is now officially live on my channel.

As you can tell I was a little bit nervous about filming this video but I think my geeky streak came through!

So for those at you who haven’t been here that long I’ve actually been hinting at this for quite a while. I’ve always wanted to get into YouTube and create a channel that could be joint with my blog. Obviously at the moment I don’t actually have a channel banner, so if anyone has any tips for me in that department please let me know! But other than that I’m quite happy with how everything has turned out.

If you’d like to see more videos from me please don’t forget to subscribe to my channel and like the video. For my next one I’m thinking about doing ‘My Eczema Story’ what do you think? Does that sound like something you’d like to watch?

If you’re already on YouTube please leave a link to your channel below so that I can check it out!

Blogtober Day Ten – My Favourite Product

Well you guys, looks like I have survived 10 days of Blogtober! Not gonna lie I’m pretty proud of myself right now! If this is your first time here check out some of my previous posts; Ten Facts About Me, An Old Photo Of Me and My Outfit Of The Day.

Today’s challenge requires you to tell me about my favourite product, and this isn’t going to be easy considering that I own so many that I really love. My first thought was my new Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette because it’s new and it’s the first item that I own from her makeup range. However, I will be bringing you a swatch and review post pretty soon so I decided I’d mention something a little different to you today.

Today I’d like to talk to you about Clinique’s Smart Custom Serum.

I can’t say that I’ve been using this product for a very long time, maybe two years, as prior to my allergies I’d never used any Clinique product. But I do use it every single day and for that reason I feel it deserves to be mentioned!

What does it do?

Clinique’s Smart Custom Serum is designed to offer tailored performance for your skin. Clinique claim it adapts to your skin’s needs to correct the appearance of uneven skintones, wrinkles, lines and offer firming and radiance.

How do I use it?

Apply two pumps all over ther face and neck morning and night after cleansing and moisturising.

What do I love about it?

I love the fresh feeling it gives my skin, and I really do think it has helped to improve it’s overall appearance! It’s easy to use and I swear it makes my foundation apply so much smoother. Plus, when you pump it out it has a gorgeous peachy pearlescent appearance.

5 Makeup Mistakes Everyone Makes

We’ve all been there and done it. Whether you were 15 years old trying makeup for the very first time or you got too drunk when you were getting ready for a night out with your friends – I can guarantee you’ve made a makeup mistake at some point. I happen to have made almost every one in the book!

So, I thought I’d do something a little funny for a change and share 5 of my makeup mistakes with you today. Even now I am still making them; but I like to prefer of it as learning. I believe makeup is a medium and your body is your canvas. We can each create beautiful works of art, and we can all use our own methods to get there. With that in mind, please don’t take any offence from this post. It is simple light hearted fun, and these are personal mistakes that didn’t suit me or my face.

5 Makeup Mistakes Everyone Makes

1. Choosing the wrong colour foundation.

This was pretty much the story of my life during my teenage years! I always wanted to be more tanned than I was, and obviously I thought the answer could be found by adjusting the shade of my foundation. No, just no. It is important to select the correct shade of foundation to achieve a natural and effortless finish. Unless you want to look like a little tangerine like I did!

2. Completely filling your eyebrows in.

I’m going to clarify this. I do actually use products to enhance my eyebrows, but I think completely filling them in is a big mistake for some people. The finished look can be far too harsh and unnatural, and it really draws the attention away from your other beautiful features! If you want a bold brow look though, go for it. The results can be fierce.

3. Not wiping/covering the foundation on your lips.

If you’re as eager as I am when you’re applying your foundation then it’s likely that you’re going to get some on your lips. That’s no biggie. Cover it up with a lipstick or wipe it off. Don’t do what I did and leave it, or even worse cover it with a clear gloss. It makes your lips look almost dirty and a pinky or browny colour close to the natural colour of your lips is much better if you are wanting to achieve a nude look.

4. Not preparing your false eyelashes.

False eyelashes are a lot of hard work! You need to trim them down to the size of your eyes, bend them to get a more natural shape and allow the glue to dry a little after applying if you want the perfect finish. I used to completely ignore this when getting myself ready for a night out. The result – a poor fitting eyelash that hung over the corner of my eyes, looked unnatural and started falling off a few hours into the night! If you really want a precise finish use special false eyelash applicators and complete the look with a touch of black liquid liner for a heat and tidy lash-line.

5. Not blending!

Blend, blend, blend! I cannot stress this enough! It is so important to blend your makeup properly to avoid harsh lines and an unnatural or fake look. Blend your eyeshadow, foundation, concealer, contouring…all of it. Probably my biggest makeup mistake was not blending properly. This resulted in heavy, untidy eye makeup and foundation lines all around my chin. Be sure to blend to create an airbrushed, glamorous look that isn’t cakey or obviously overdone.

That’s it for the makeup lesson today! I made so many more mistakes than this, and still do, but there is plenty of time to learn. What do you think, have you made any of these makeup mistakes in the past?

Clinique Haul; Lipstick, Loose Powder and More! ❤

So as I mentioned in my 10 Things I’m Thankful For Post I had a really bad day with my eczema recently and decided to cheer myself up with a little retail therapy! Finally my order has arrived and I have to share it with you all since I ordered the lipstick that I mentioned in my Clinique Wish List that everyone seemed to be lusting after.

Loose Powder

My first purchase was the Blended Face Powder and Brush in Invisible Blend. I desperately needed a loose powder to help set my concealer under my eyes so this was a must have. I have to say I’m a little disspointed with the brush which seems very small and poor quality but the finish you can create with this powder is flawless. It is named invisible blend but I’d recommend choosing one of the darker shades unless you are very fair skinned.

Airbrush concealer

I love the Airbrush Concealer so I was quick to top up when I ran out! It works great just as a concealer as it gives good coverage but I use it mainly for contouring. I use the shade 01 Fair which has natural pinky undertones like my skin but there is a wide variety of colours available to suit pink or yellow toned skin.

Eyeshadow Primer

I struggle to keep my eyeshadow on all day so I thought I’d give the All About Shadow Primer For Eyes a go. I have yet to try this out but a review will be coming your way as soon as I do! The only thing I will say is that I purposefully ordered it in the shade Very Fair because the other shade available looks far too dark for my skin but now I can see it I think looks a lot darker than it did on the website.

Matte petal lipstick

The product you’ve all been waiting for; I ordered the Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Petal! I was so excited to get this that I tried it out straight away and I am in love. Unlike other matte lipsticks that I have used in the past this one is not at all drying and it seems to have a soft buttery texture which I think actually moisturised my lips. Plus the colour is absolutely perfect for summer, I can really see this being my new go to lipstick!

The next few products I received free with my order by entering the code SUMMER at the checkout.

Almost Lipstick black honey

This is the Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. I love the texture and the very sheer, natural colour that it gives. I’m a little disappointed that it is so sheer as when I first saw it I assumed it would be a gorgeously deep red colour but it still gives a pretty and fresh faced natural look.

High impact mascara sample

I am so happy I got the High Impact Mascara free with my order as this is the mascara that I normally use and I was running a bit low. I love all of the Clinique mascaras and as you can see it has a nice simple wand which isn’t as heavy as the wand featured on the full size mascara. This small 4g sample will last ages if I remember to screw the top on properly!

Take the day off makeup remover

This tiny Take the Day Off Makeup Remover sample will be perfect for travelling with. It’s just the right size to go in your handbag or clutch and I’m sure I will fill it back up from my full size bottle once I’ve used it all. Convenient and cute!

all about eyes

My final freebie was a 5ml sample of their popular All About Eyes cream. Just looking at it I assumed it would be quite thick and heavy but when I tested it on the back of my hand it was gorgeous and light!

Swatches

From top to bottom; Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Petal, Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, All About Shadow Eye Primer in Very Fair and Airbrush Concealer in 01 Fair.

So there you have all of my purchases and freebies! Are there any particular products you see here that you’d love a review or tutorial with? Which product is your favourite?

Disappointing Products; Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight!

I was so so excited when Clinique finally brought out their contouring chubby sticks, so the disappointment is even more frustrating.

Chubby Stick Sculpting ContourChubby Stick Sculpting Highlight

Naturally with my skin allergies I have to stick mainly to them because I haven’t found a brand yet that offers fragrance free and hypoallergenic products like they do. Most of their products are fairly high quality and easy to use but I find that they seem to be getting stuck behind a little bit when it comes to the latest trends and I don’t think they offer any particularly great products for real makeup enthusiasts. However, I expected much greater things of them than they delivered with this latest product. I think that the Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour is great although it may not be suited to all skin tones, but the Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight is a complete disaster.

It is SO shimmery which just makes you look oily if you try to use it anywhere other than your cheek or brow bones. Plus there is practically no pigment to it which is even more annoying because it doesn’t help to balance out the darker areas that you’ve contoured. This means you are left with glittery areas and no highlighting effect. Below you can see me using both sticks, and as I said only one is really visibly pigmented. Unfortunately the glitter isn’t showing up here either, which means that it hasn’t actually done anything!

Contour Results

Really the only good thing that I can say about this product is that it has a great consistency which is easy to blend and the chubby stick form would be a great way to begin contouring if you’re new to it. Instead of using this for highlighting I’ve been using Clinique’s Airbrush Concealer in 01 Fair and going over my browbones with this chubby stick for a tiny bit of light catching shimmer.

All in all I really don’t think it’s worth the £19 that I paid for it and I will definitely not be purchasing it again. Unless you’re completely new to contouring I suggest you stay well clear and instead opt for a good coverage concealer a couple of shades lighter than your natural skin tone.

If you’ve tried this product what did you think? What products would you recommend for contouring?
